The Director of Licensing and Regulations at the Postal and Courier Services Regulatory Commission (PCSRC), John Oletey Otuteye, has encouraged Ghanaian food vendors to register their businesses to fully benefit from the growing digital food delivery sector.
Mr. Otuteye advised vendors to formalize their operations and collaborate with licensed digital platforms, like Bolt Food, to expand their reach and participate effectively in the online marketplace. He made these remarks at the Bolt Food 5th Anniversary Awards Ceremony held in Accra.
He explained that changing lifestyles, driven by urbanization and busy schedules, are fueling a greater reliance on online food ordering and delivery services, particularly in major cities. “Changing food consumption patterns, driven by urbanisation, busy schedules, and the demand for convenience, have increased reliance on online food ordering and delivery services in major cities,” he noted.
The anniversary event, themed “Beyond Delivery: Honouring 5 Years of Progress & Partnership,” brought together key stakeholders including regulatory bodies, restaurant partners, courier fleet members, and platform operators.
Mr. Otuteye assured food vendors that the PCSRC is committed to a flexible and supportive licensing system to encourage investment and participation in the courier and delivery industry. He emphasized that registration would provide vendors with secure and trackable delivery logistics within a regulated framework prioritizing consumer safety.
According to Mr. Otuteye, platforms like Bolt Food play a crucial role in building trust and fostering a sustainable ecosystem for local food businesses. He also highlighted the significant growth of the gig economy, largely propelled by delivery services such as Bolt.
“The operations of Bolt Food Ghana have revolutionised the courier sector, offering thousands of jobs to young people in this country,” he stated.
Bolt Food Ghana’s General Manager, John Oletey Otuteye, detailed the platform’s progress since its launch in November 2020. Key achievements include expanding services to Accra and Kumasi, introducing 24/7 delivery in select Accra areas, integrating mobile money payment options, and scaling up retail and grocery delivery.
“When we talk about the success of Bolt Food, it is our restaurant partners at the centre of it. They are the ones who bring the platform to life,” Mr Zaria emphasized.
Several restaurants were recognized for their contributions to the platform’s success. Barcelos and Pizzavella received the Chain Excellence Award for maintaining high operational standards and brand consistency. Oliver Twist Shack was awarded the Partner Longevity Award for its long-standing partnership. Chrismaison (Chris Maisin) earned the Sustained Growth Award for consistent expansion, while Mayford was presented with the Collaborative Excellence Award for exceptional partnership. Daddy Boba! was conferred with the Brand Strength Award for its strong market presence and customer loyalty.
