Otumfuo, the Asantehene, has called on the Pharmaceutical Society of Ghana to maintain professional standards as it pursues growth, emphasizing that the quality of pharmacists is more important than their numbers.
Speaking at the society’s 90th anniversary celebration at Manhyia Palace, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II warned against compromising standards in the effort to expand the profession. He stressed that the future of pharmacy in Ghana should be measured by the competence of its professionals.
The Asantehene urged pharmacists to focus on patient-centred care and to uphold the highest professional standards, highlighting their indispensable role in Ghana’s healthcare system.
He also called on the government to prioritize the training, development, and deployment of pharmacists as part of broader healthcare strengthening efforts.
“No health system can function effectively without a strong, well-trained and properly utilised pharmaceutical workforce,” he said, adding that investments in healthcare must include deliberate attention to the development and deployment of pharmacists at all levels of care.
The anniversary celebration brought together pharmacists from across the country to reflect on the profession’s history and discuss strategies for its future development.
