Vice President Professor Naana Jane Opoku-Agyemang received Colombia’s Vice President, Francia Elena Márquez Mina, at the Jubilee House on Thursday, December 11.

The meeting centred around bolstering relations between Ghana and Colombia, with a focus on increased collaboration in key areas like trade, investment, technology transfer, and overall development. Both leaders expressed a commitment to South–South cooperation as a driving force for progress.

Discussions explored potential avenues for Ghana to benefit from Colombia’s experiences in sectors such as agriculture and renewable energy, while Colombia seeks to leverage Ghana’s stable political environment and growing economy. According to sources close to the meeting, specific projects aimed at fostering these collaborations were also on the agenda.

“This visit signifies a new chapter in our relationship,” Professor Opoku-Agyemang reportedly stated during a brief address. “We are eager to learn from Colombia’s successes and share our own experiences as we work towards a more prosperous future for our people.”

Vice President Márquez Mina echoed these sentiments, emphasizing the importance of solidarity among nations in the Global South. She explained that strengthening ties with African countries like Ghana is a priority for Colombia, as it seeks to diversify its partnerships and promote sustainable development.

The visit is expected to pave the way for further engagements, including potential high-level delegations and the signing of agreements to formalize the areas of cooperation identified during the discussions. Officials are optimistic that this renewed focus on bilateral ties will yield tangible benefits for both nations.
