Vice President Professor Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang has urged investors and industry stakeholders to prioritize sustainable investments in Africa’s film sector, highlighting its potential for significant job creation and economic growth.
The Vice President made the appeal at the inaugural Regal Film Festival and Awards (REFFA) 2025, held on December 13th. The festival brought together filmmakers, producers, and creative professionals to celebrate the vibrancy of African cinema and storytelling.
Addressing attendees, Prof. Opoku-Agyemang specifically encouraged young and emerging filmmakers to focus on professionalism and quality in their craft, rather than solely pursuing visibility and widespread popularity. “African stories must be told with intention and depth if they are to compete meaningfully on the global stage,” she stated. “Authenticity and excellence remain key to achieving international recognition.”
She further commended the organizers of REFFA for establishing a platform that not only recognizes talent but also facilitates access to both regional and international markets for African films, all while actively preserving cultural identity.
Prof. Opoku-Agyemang extended her congratulations to the award recipients and all participants, expressing her strong belief in the future of the festival. She described REFFA as a promising hub for nurturing young creatives and bolstering Africa’s representation in the global film industry.
