NPP Leads in Kpandai Ahead of Election Rerun

Politics

The New Patriotic Party (NPP) appears more united than the National Democratic Congress (NDC) ahead of the Kpandai parliamentary rerun, a factor that could significantly influence the outcome, according to pollster Mussa Dankwah.

Mr. Dankwah, Executive Director of Global InfoAnalytics, revealed this assessment during an appearance on the AM Show. He explained that recent polling data indicates strong cohesion within the NPP ranks, while the NDC is grappling with internal divisions and wavering voter loyalty, particularly among crucial demographic groups.

“But the guy is very strong. I think we can’t take that away from him. He has to hold his own and make sure there’s no division within his rank,” Dankwah said, referring to the NPP candidate, Matthew Nyindam.

“From the data we’ve seen, NPP is solid behind their candidate, whereas NDC is fragmented in that area at the moment.”

These comments follow the release of a Global InfoAnalytics survey which shows Nyindam with a slight lead in the upcoming rerun. The poll indicates the NPP candidate has 50% of voter support, with NDC’s Daniel Nsala Wakpal trailing at 46%.

The survey also projects that independent candidate Donkor Eric Nipani will receive approximately 1% of the vote, with 3% of respondents still undecided. Considering a margin of error of ±3.9%, the race remains exceptionally close.

Mr. Dankwah further highlighted that the NDC’s challenges extend beyond overall numbers, noting a discernible level of uncertainty within its support base, especially among female voters.

“If you look at those who voted for this candidate, some of the women are saying they are undecided. So, something is not right in NDC there,” he observed, adding that these internal divisions could prove costly for the opposition party.

However, he cautioned that the political landscape is still fluid and could shift before election day. Voter sentiment in closely contested races like Kpandai remains susceptible to change.

The Kpandai rerun has garnered national attention, with both the NPP and NDC intensifying their campaigns in the constituency, which is considered a key political battleground. Analysts suggest that voter turnout, party unity, and the ability to persuade undecided voters will be pivotal in determining the final result.
