Three suspected kidnappers were arrested on Saturday, December six, after an intelligence‑led operation by the Northern Regional Police Command in Bokpaba, along the Bimbilla‑Yendi stretch.
The suspects – Haruna Seidu, Amidu Bandi and Osman Bandi – are believed to belong to a four‑man kidnapping syndicate that abducted a forty‑two‑year‑old man from Wapuli in the Yendi District. Police say the gang demanded a ransom of GH₵ 100,000.
According to a statement released on Monday, December eight, the Regional Police Intelligence Directorate swiftly deployed a five‑member team to Wapuli after receiving the kidnapping report. The team was tasked with surveillance, rescuing the victim and apprehending the culprits.
On Friday, December five, officers engaged the suspects in a dramatic exchange of gunfire. “The operation was conducted with utmost professionalism and the safety of the victim was our priority,” a police spokesperson said.
Despite the intense firefight, the officers rescued the victim unharmed and took three suspects into custody. The fourth gang member escaped the scene, allegedly sustaining gunshot wounds, and remains at large.
The Northern Regional Police Command has urged residents of Wapuli, Bimbilla and Yendi to report any suspicious activity that may lead to the fugitive’s capture. “Community cooperation is vital in our fight against violent crime,” the command added.
The three arrested suspects are currently in police custody and are expected to be arraigned before court in the coming days as investigations continue.
