Nkawkaw Ampekrom, Ghana – The quiet community of Nkawkaw Ampekrom was recently the scene of a significant drug bust, as the Eastern North Police Command in Kwahu Mpraeso executed a carefully planned operation that led to the arrest of two women and the seizure of a substantial quantity of suspected Indian hemp. The operation, the culmination of months of surveillance and intelligence gathering, underscores law enforcement’s ongoing commitment to combating drug-related activities in the region. The primary keyword, Indian hemp, is crucial in understanding the nature of the seized substance.

According to Regional Police Commander, DCOP Isaac Kwadwo Asante, the arrest was made at a private residence in Nkawkaw Ampekrom on Tuesday, May 13, 2025. "The Police stormed the house based on intelligence," DCOP Asante told Adom News in an interview. "Upon a thorough search, 24 maxi bags filled with Indian hemp were retrieved." The seized cache amounted to 1,650 slabs of the substance.

The two women apprehended at the scene have been identified as Hawa Ibrahim, 40, the landlady of the property, and Latifa Adams, 30. Both women are currently in police custody, assisting with the ongoing investigation.

The raid, conducted by the Eastern North Police Command, took place at the home of the suspects, marking a pivotal moment in their months-long surveillance operation. The sheer volume of suspected Indian hemp discovered—1,650 slabs packed into 24 maxi bags—highlights the scale of the alleged operation and the potential impact on the community.

Authorities have yet to release specific details regarding Latifa Adams’ role in the alleged drug operation, as the investigation remains active. However, Hawa Ibrahim, as the landlady, is believed to be a central figure in the case. Both suspects are expected to face serious charges related to the possession and trafficking of illegal substances.

The legal proceedings are expected to commence shortly, with the suspects being processed for court in due course. While the exact charges will depend on the outcome of the ongoing investigation and prosecutorial decisions, they will likely center around the possession and trafficking of illegal substances, specifically Indian hemp. The potential penalties for such offenses in Ghana can range from significant terms of imprisonment to substantial fines, depending on the quantity of drugs involved and the specific charges brought against the accused.

The Nkawkaw drug bust serves as a stark reminder of the persistent challenges posed by drug trafficking in the Eastern North Region. The seizure of 1,650 slabs of suspected Indian hemp and the arrest of Hawa Ibrahim and Latifa Adams represent a notable success for the Eastern North Police Command. This operation reaffirms the dedication of law enforcement to tackling drug-related crimes and safeguarding public safety.
