Rising Nigerian artist Strei is quickly gaining recognition for his emotionally resonant music, amassing over 20 million streams in under a year.

Strei’s signature ‘Afromood’ sound – a blend of vibrant Afro rhythms and deeply personal expression – has propelled him to the forefront of Nigeria’s burgeoning music scene. His debut EP, I.T.A.M. (Introduction to Afromood), impressively reached #6 on Spotify’s Top 50 Viral Chart and garnered over 15 million streams within its first six months.

The success continued with follow-up singles like ‘Imagine’ and ‘Blessing’, solidifying his growing influence. In August 2025, Strei further expanded his reach by signing a distribution deal with Platoon and releasing ‘Crazily’ featuring BabyBoy AV, captivating a wider global audience.

For Strei, Afromood is not merely a genre but a deeply personal outlet. “Before anything, it was just me trying to express exactly how I felt—sad, moody, in love, angry, or happy,” Strei explained.

He continued, “Over time, that honesty became a sound. The moment I saw people singing every word from I.T.A.M. with real emotion, I knew it had taken on a life of its own.”

Despite his rapid ascent, Strei remains focused on the artistic process, carefully balancing music creation with branding and world-building. “Bringing branding and world-building ideas to life can be hectic, but with my team, we’ve managed to create immersive experiences that complement the music,” he says.

Collaborations, such as ‘Crazily’, are key to his creative approach. “Collaborations allow for creative freedom, where energy and emotion flow naturally between artists,” Strei added.

Looking forward, Strei intends to evolve the Afromood sound, adding new layers while preserving its core emotional honesty. “I’m pushing the sound into new textures, adding more emotion and vulnerability, and working on collaborations that align with the Afromood world,” he revealed.

With a rapidly expanding international fanbase and a dedication to authentic self-expression, Strei is poised to become a defining creative force, reshaping the connection between music and the human heart.
