Newmont Ahafo Mines has pledged to fully finance the asphalting of the 13-kilometer Ntotroso–Kenyasi road, slated to begin in 2026. The project is aimed at resolving longstanding transportation difficulties and dust pollution for residents and commuters.
The announcement came on Tuesday at Ntotroso during the launch of the 2026 Apomasu Festival, delivered by Newmont Ahafo Mines’ General Manager, Engineer Alex Anning.
Engineer Anning explained that the road construction is a key component of Newmont’s commitment to improving infrastructure and the overall quality of life in its host communities. “This project underscores our dedication to the well-being of the people of Ntotroso and Kenyasi,” he stated.
Beyond the Ntotroso–Kenyasi stretch, Newmont has already invested in building several internal community roads, particularly in Ntotroso and Gyedu, to enhance accessibility. The General Manager also revealed that preparations are underway to begin work on internal roads within Kenyasi No. 1 and 2.
Engineer Anning further highlighted the successful public-private partnership between Newmont and the government, citing the ongoing Sunyani–Acherensua highway project as a testament to this collaborative effort. He said the highway is crucial for boosting regional and economic connections.
Ahafo Regional Minister, Charity Gardiner, also used the occasion to praise Barima Twereku Ampem, the Paramount Chief of the Ntotroso Traditional Council, for effectively using culture as a driver for community development.
“The establishment of the Ntotroso College of Nursing and Midwifery and the Twereku Ampem Senior High School exemplify how traditional leadership can champion progress in human resource development,” she noted.
Local stakeholders are optimistic that the road project, combined with existing educational and infrastructural developments, will significantly improve living standards and foster sustainable socio-economic growth in the Ntotroso area.
