Hundreds of elderly residents in New Juaben South received essential support during the festive season thanks to the ‘Christmas Shop for Free’ initiative by Member of Parliament, Michael Okyere Baafi.
The event, held yesterday at the Methodist AstroTurf in Betom, Koforidua, provided senior citizens aged 65 and above with free food items and household supplies.
Mr. Okyere Baafi explained that the initiative aimed to restore dignity and bring Christmas joy to the elderly. “This initiative is about ensuring that our senior citizens feel valued, cared for, and supported, especially at a time when many face economic challenges,” he said.
Beneficiaries also had access to free health screenings and cosmetology services, including hairdressing, manicure, and pedicure treatments. According to the MP, this was to create a comprehensive day of care.
“We wanted this to be more than shopping; we wanted it to be a full day of care and celebration,” Mr. Okyere Baafi added.
The MP reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive leadership and prioritizing vulnerable groups within the constituency. “As MP for New Juaben South, I remain committed to ensuring that no one is left behind, particularly during the festive season,” he stated, pledging continued support for the elderly.
Mr. Okyere Baafi expressed his gratitude to the organizing team, volunteers, sponsors, and partners for their contributions to the event’s success. “I am deeply grateful to everyone who contributed to making this day memorable,” he said, extending Christmas wishes to the residents. “May the joy of Christmas fill every home and every heart.”
