Popular Ghanaian actress Nana Ama McBrown has announced her divorce from husband Maxwell Mensah after twelve years of marriage.
The actress made the disclosure on TV3’s ‘New Day’ programme, stating the decision was a mutual one reached without animosity. She emphasized the continued cordiality between herself and her former spouse.
“I’m the most happiest right now. I have gone through divorce. Yes, I am divorced. I am, and I am not ashamed to say but I did so beautifully. My husband and I are cool. We spoke yesterday, we speak today, we speak tomorrow, we meet, I go to our house [to see] my in-laws and everything,” McBrown revealed.
She described herself as a “happy woman” and stressed that she and Maxwell remain the “best of friends,” navigating the separation without bitterness. “I was tired, he was tired. We sat down, we said let’s talk about it. Let’s move on,” she explained.
Despite her ex-husband and his family expressing a desire for her to remain in the marriage, McBrown stated she felt unable to continue. “He is a correct guy. I still feel him but I got tired of the marriage,” she added.
The marriage, which was contracted under customary law, required only the involvement of both families to dissolve. McBrown highlighted the joy she derives from her daughter, Maxine, whom she described as a “precious gift” from the union.
In a firm declaration, the actress stated she has no intentions of remarrying. “I will not marry again. I can give birth again but I won’t marry again,” she noted. “I have married for 12 years. When you see celebrities that have married for 12 years, applaud them,” she urged.
The announcement follows widespread rumours of difficulties within the marriage, with some reports alleging infidelity on the part of Maxwell Mensah as a contributing factor to the breakdown of the relationship.
