NAIMOS deployed a specialised task force to Samreboi in the Amenfi West Municipality on 7 December, seizing three illegal mining pumps and halting operations within a four‑hour sweep.
The operation, conducted between 1545 hours and 1923 hours, saw officers navigate challenging terrain with strict disciplinary measures. Upon arrival they found clear evidence of active illegal mining, but the operators had fled before the team arrived.
Undeterred, the team secured and dismantled three pumping machines, recovered an active control board used for washing operations, rendered an engine inoperable and destroyed several water hoses to prevent any immediate resumption of activity.
Technical assessment of the abandoned site revealed extensive excavation and large volumes of mineral‑bearing material already prepared for washing, underscoring the scale of the illegal activity and the environmental damage it threatens.
“The team displayed exemplary professionalism and resilience throughout the mission,” said Kwame Mensah, Operations Director, NAIMOS, emphasizing the unit’s high morale and readiness despite the demanding field conditions.
Officials highlighted that the intervention directly protects water bodies, farmlands and national resources from irreversible destruction caused by unregulated mining.
Operational leadership commended the task force for its discipline and courage, noting that each dismantled machine and secured site represents communities safeguarded and national assets preserved.
With momentum building across Western North operational zones, NAIMOS continues to tighten its grip on illegal mining networks throughout the country.
The Samreboi team concluded the assignment feeling renewed, motivated and professionally fulfilled, ready for subsequent deployments in defence of the national interest.
