NACOC Arrests Three Over 1,158kg Cocaine Shipment to Belgium

Three suspects were arrested on four December 2025 by the Narcotics Control Commission (NACOC) in connection with a 1,158‑kilogram cocaine consignment allegedly shipped from Ghana to Belgium’s Port of Antwerp.

The arrests followed weeks of coordinated intelligence work between Ghanaian security agencies and their Belgian counterparts, who intercepted the shipment upon its arrival in Europe. Officials described the seizure as one of the largest international drug‑related cases linked to Ghana this year.

According to NACOC spokesperson Dr. Kwame Mensah, the three individuals are believed to have organised, documented and exported the cargo, disguising it as legitimate freight. “The operation demonstrated how transnational networks exploit our ports,” he stated.

Belgian authorities alerted NACOC after detecting irregularities in the container’s manifest, prompting a swift traceback that led to the arrests. Preliminary investigations suggest the consignment may be part of a broader trafficking network operating across several West African ports.

NACOC confirmed a full‑scale investigation is underway to identify additional accomplices and gauge the network’s full extent. The Commission reiterated its commitment to strengthening port surveillance and deepening collaboration with international partners to curb drug trafficking.

The agency urged freight operators, shipping agents and the public to remain vigilant and report any suspicious activities as Ghana steps up its fight against illicit substances.
