The humid air of Aflao still carried the echoes of gunshots weeks after the incident. Christopher Ahordo, a local Momo vendor, had been going about his business near the Diamond Cement Factory when, according to police reports, five assailants ambushed him on April 28, 2025, at approximately 6:15 p.m. The attack, which resulted in the Momo vendor death, sent shockwaves through the community.

Now, in a significant development, the Volta Regional Police Command has announced the arrest of four suspects in connection with the Momo vendor death. The arrests, made on May 10, offer a glimmer of hope for justice in a case that has underscored the vulnerability of mobile money vendors in the region.

The late Christopher Ahordo, known to many as a hardworking and affable member of the community, was allegedly shot dead by the robbers, who made off with his bag containing the day’s proceeds. The brazen nature of the crime prompted an immediate and intensive investigation.

The Volta Regional Police Intelligence Department (RPID), supported by the Police SWAT Unit, Operation Motherland Taskforce, and ‘ACTION NOW,’ a Community Watch Committee in Aflao, conducted a coordinated operation that led to the apprehension of the suspects.

Those arrested include Michael Sewornu, 34; Korku Agboada, 43; Atsu Agbagla, 36; and Utsuku Onyeso, 22, a Nigerian national. All four are currently in police custody and are assisting with the ongoing investigation. The police have not yet released details of the evidence linking the suspects to the crime but have indicated that the investigation is progressing steadily.

“These arrests are a testament to the dedication and collaborative spirit of our officers and the community,” stated a police spokesperson in a press release. “We are committed to ensuring that justice is served in this case and that Aflao remains a safe place for all residents.”

The police investigation is ongoing, but the arrest of the suspects is a needed step in calming fears that followed the Momo vendor death.

The police have reiterated the importance of public vigilance and collaboration in maintaining security. They are urging residents to be security-conscious and to provide any information about criminal activities to the authorities. Such information, they say, is vital to facilitating their work and preventing future tragedies.

As the investigation continues, the community of Aflao awaits further details, hoping that the arrest of these suspects will bring closure to a painful chapter and deter future acts of violence. The Volta Regional Police Command’s swift action underscores the importance of community collaboration and security consciousness in preventing and solving crimes. The Momo vendor death served as a catalyst for renewed efforts to ensure the safety and security of all residents in the Volta Region, reinforcing the commitment to justice and community well-being.
