Poultry Farmers Offer Eggs at Lower Prices for Christmas

Poultry farmers are selling eggs directly to consumers at discounted prices at the Multimedia Group Limited’s premises in Kokomlemle, Accra.

The two-day ‘Xmas Egg Market’, a partnership between Multimedia Group Limited (MGL) and the Greater Accra Poultry Farmers Association, commenced today, Friday, December 19, and will run until Saturday, December 20.

The initiative aims to provide affordable eggs for the festive season while addressing the challenges faced by local poultry farmers, including a surplus in supply and increasing production costs.

Eggs are being sold at between GH₵40 and GH₵50 a crate, depending on size, offering a significant reduction for households preparing for Christmas.

“This is a very timely intervention. It’s helping us, the farmers, and also helping families get affordable protein for the season,” said Isaac Manful, a poultry farmer participating in the market.

A buyer, Afua Browne, also expressed her appreciation, stating, “It’s a good thing they are doing this. It supports the farmers and makes it easier for us to enjoy Christmas with our families.”

Organisers say the market highlights their commitment to supporting local poultry production and encouraging Ghanaians to ‘eat local’ this Christmas.

The event directly connects producers with consumers, offering relief to farmers struggling with excess supply and falling prices.
