Traditional Leaders Call for Unity and Peace in Central Tongu

The Mafi Traditional Area in the Central Tongu District of the Volta Region has celebrated its 77th Hogbetsotso Festival, with leaders emphasizing unity, peace, and love as crucial for development.

Speaking at the festival, Togbe Kakaklolo Agyeman V, Dufia of Adidome, stated that lasting development can only flourish in an environment of peace and mutual understanding. He called on traditional leaders and residents to prioritize dialogue, respect, and collaboration with political authorities to attract much-needed development projects.

This year’s celebration, themed “Fostering Unity, Peace and Love for Development,” served as a powerful reminder of the Mafi people’s shared heritage and the importance of leveraging their cultural values to drive progress within their communities and the broader Ewe society.

The annual Hogbetsotso Festival is a commemoration of the origin, shared history, and rich cultural traditions of the Mafi people. Beyond the vibrant cultural displays, it provides a platform for reflection, future planning, and mobilizing resources for development initiatives.

Togbe Kakaklolo Agyeman V, in his welcome address, reiterated the significance of unity and collective responsibility, stressing that “meaningful development can only be achieved when citizens work together in peace,”

Professor Huch Aryee, the Vanuatu Trade Commissioner to Ghana, challenged the youth of Mafi to actively participate in the ongoing technological revolution. He urged them to move beyond being mere observers and instead embrace technology, acquire relevant skills, and position themselves to capitalize on emerging opportunities.

Addison Dodzi Mornyuie, the District Chief Executive for Central Tongu, encouraged residents to fully utilize government flagship programs, particularly those focused on agriculture and other key sectors, to enhance their livelihoods and contribute to local development.

Meanwhile, Alexander Hottordze, the Member of Parliament for Central Tongu, voiced concerns about ongoing chieftaincy disputes within the constituency. He noted that these conflicts continue to hinder development projects and slow down progress in the district.

The 77th Mafi Hogbetsotso Festival brought together traditional leaders, political figures, residents, and distinguished guests, reaffirming their collective commitment to fostering peace, unity, and development in the Mafi Traditional Area.
