5 granted bail in NAIMOS impersonation case, court adjourns to Feb 9

Five persons accused of impersonating National Anti-Illegal Mining Operations Secretariat (NAIMOS) officials at Akyem Potrase have been granted bail by the Kyebi District Court with strict financial conditions for their sureties.

Prosecutor Detective Chief Inspector Kamal Salifu Gumah told the court the suspects allegedly posed as mining regulation officials to extort money from victims in the Abuakwa South Municipality. One suspect reportedly collected GH₵1,400 from two individuals under threat, according to prosecution documents.

The accused persons pleaded not guilty to four charges including conspiracy to commit crime, extortion, and falsely pretending to be public officers under Sections 15(1), 23 and 237 of the Criminal Offences Act, 1960 (Act 29).

The court presided over by His Worship Eric Baah Boateng granted bail with two sureties each who must be salaried workers earning between GH₵3,000 and GH₵4,000 monthly. Defense counsel successfully applied for bail during Wednesday’s hearing.

The case has been adjourned to February 9, 2026 for case management conference as police continue investigations into the alleged impersonation scheme targeting local miners.
