The Bono East Regional Police Command has restored calm in Kwame Danso, Sene West District, following a violent attack on the District Court and Police Headquarters on Wednesday, December 10.
Police say the disturbances began late in the morning when a large group of youths stormed the court while proceedings were underway.
According to reports, around 10:30 am, approximately 100 youths besieged the court premises, disrupting the session. They vandalised furniture and equipment and forcibly freed two accused persons who were on trial.
The group also reportedly assaulted the complainant in the case, causing damage and posing a threat to those present, a police source indicated.
The violence then extended to the Kwame Danso Police Headquarters, where two officers were attacked and parts of the station vandalised.
Reinforcement teams from Atebubu, along with Formed Police Units (FPUs), were deployed to restore order and successfully dispersed the crowd.
On the instructions of the Inspector-General of Police, the Kwame Danso Police Station and District Headquarters have been temporarily closed. Officers have been reassigned to other locations in the region to ensure their safety during investigations.
The Bono East Regional Police Command has assured the public that all those involved in the attacks will be apprehended and prosecuted. “Perpetrators will be identified, arrested, and made to face the full consequences of the law,” ASPMr Appiah Danquah, Acting Public Relations Officer for the region, stated.
The Command reiterated its commitment to maintaining peace and protecting the community.
