The echoes of youthful voices now fill the air at the State Experimental School in Kumasi, not with the anxiety of crumbling infrastructure, but with the vibrancy of a modern learning environment. Thanks to the dedicated efforts of Nhyiaeso MP, Dr. Stephen Amoah, students and teachers alike are reaping the rewards of a newly constructed 33-unit classroom block. This significant development directly addresses the challenges highlighted in a previous Joy News feature, marking a turning point for school development in the region.
The journey to this modern facility began with a stark portrayal of the school’s dilapidated state, brought to light by Erastus Asare Donkor of Joy News in February 2022. The report depicted a school struggling under the weight of failing infrastructure, its pillars weakened and posing a serious threat to the safety of its students. The images resonated deeply within the community, prompting immediate action.
Dr. Amoah’s initial response was swift, allocating funds for the renovation of the existing, unsafe structures. This intervention served as a crucial temporary fix, ensuring the immediate safety of the students and staff. However, Dr. Amoah recognized the need for a more sustainable solution – a modern learning space that would not only address the immediate safety concerns but also provide an environment conducive to quality education.
“The story which focused on the challenges in the school, I was mentioned in the story, and it did put pressure on us,” Dr. Amoah acknowledged. This pressure, coupled with his pre-existing commitment to modernizing basic schools in Nhyiaeso, fueled his determination to provide a lasting solution for the State Experimental School.
The result is a sprawling 33-unit classroom block, a testament to the power of proactive leadership and collaborative efforts. Constructed with support from GETFUND, the new facility offers a stark contrast to the school’s previous conditions. While specific details about the amenities are emerging, the classrooms provide ample space and a safe environment for students to thrive. This infrastructural upgrade is expected to have a significant impact on both teaching and learning. With improved facilities, educators can create more engaging and effective lesson plans, while students benefit from a comfortable and inspiring space to learn.
“One of my primary objectives was to modernise the basic schools in Nhyiaeso, so when the story came, I decided to prioritise this school, and a special thanks goes to the GETFUND,” Dr. Amoah stated, underscoring his commitment to providing educational facilities on par with those found in private institutions. His vision extends beyond mere structural improvements; he aims to create an environment where every child in Nhyiaeso has access to quality education.
The school’s management has expressed profound gratitude for the new facility, acknowledging the transformative impact it will have on the lives of its students. However, Headmistress Joana Anokyewaa, while celebrating the achievement, also voiced concerns about ongoing encroachment on the school’s land by private developers. She emphasized her commitment to maintaining the new facility and urged stakeholders to address the encroachment issue to ensure the school’s long-term sustainability.
Dr. Amoah remains steadfast in his dedication to promoting education within the Nhyiaeso constituency. Beyond the classroom block, he has spearheaded numerous initiatives, including the provision of desks, computers, and scholarships to deserving students. While specific figures are being compiled, these efforts demonstrate a holistic approach to education, addressing both infrastructural and resource-based needs.
The construction of the 33-unit classroom block at the State Experimental School represents a significant milestone in school development within the Nhyiaeso constituency. It stands as a testament to the Nhyiaeso MP’s unwavering commitment to education and the power of collaborative action. As students settle into their new learning environment, the future of education in Kumasi appears brighter than ever.
