Kpandai parliamentary candidate, Matthew Nyindam, has stated he will consult with both his party and constituents before making a final decision on contesting the upcoming re-run election ordered by the High Court.
Speaking on the AM Show, Mr. Nyindam emphasized that the ultimate choice will be guided by the wishes of the people of Kpandai and the direction provided by his party.
“I will listen to the party. I will listen to the parliamentary leadership. I’m sure this is an issue that came up yesterday, and then I will listen to my constituents. The best decision will be taken at the end of the day,” he said.
He further explained the importance of directly engaging with the electorate, highlighting the need for transparency and accountability. “It is my right to come and explain to the people the challenges I have found on the seat. I need to go back and explain to them. If today they say we should go and re‑run, and at the end of the day the people of Kpandai say, ‘Matthew, it is you we want to represent us,’ they will renew my mandate,” he noted.
These comments come after the Parliamentary Service formally notified the Electoral Commission (EC) of a vacancy in the Kpandai seat, following the court order for a re-run of the 2024 parliamentary election.
The notification, dated December 4, 2025, initiates the administrative procedures necessary to organize the re-run. The letter, signed by the Clerk to Parliament, Ebenezer Ahumah Djietror, was addressed to EC Chairperson Jean Mensa.
According to the Clerk, the action was taken “in exercise of the power conferred and the duty imposed on the Clerk to Parliament by Article 112(5), as amended, of the 1992 Constitution of the Republic of Ghana.”
The outcome of the re-run is expected to be pivotal in determining representation for the people of Kpandai, and Mr. Nyindam’s approach indicates a careful consideration of both party directives and the opinions of his constituents before confirming his participation.
