Kojo Choi has officially commenced his duties as Ghana’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to the Republic of Korea, following the presentation of his Letter of Credence to the South Korean President.

Describing the moment as the beginning of his mission “in full capacity”, Ambassador Choi reflected on his personal journey, highlighting that he was born in 1977 – the very year Ghana and Korea established diplomatic ties.

“I felt Ghana’s remarkable journey reflected in my own,” he stated, recalling his arrival in Ghana at a young age and the warm welcome he received in what he now considers his “new motherland.” After 34 years in Ghana, he noted he returns to Korea “not as a visitor, but as a proud son of Ghana entrusted with our nation’s highest diplomatic mandate.”

During the credentials ceremony, the President of the Republic of Korea conveyed a message of goodwill to H.E. President John Mahama and expressed eagerness for enhanced collaboration and a potential meeting between the two leaders.

Ambassador Choi emphasized the strengthening relationship between Ghana and Korea, noting that as the two nations approach their 50th anniversary of diplomatic relations, “we step into a new era of genuine partnership and shared destiny.”

He lauded Ghana’s story as one of “resilience, brilliance, and divine purpose,” pledging his commitment to elevate “Ghana’s light even higher on the world stage.”

Born in Chuncheon, South Korea, Choi moved to Ghana with his family at the age of 14 and later became a naturalized Ghanaian citizen. He built both his life and his educational foundation in Ghana, eventually becoming a successful entrepreneur in the fintech and business sectors, earning accolades for his contributions to the country’s digital economy. His appointment sparked considerable domestic discussion surrounding national identity, merit, and the evolving dynamics of Ghana’s diplomatic representation.

“God bless our homeland, Ghana and make our nation Great and Strong. Amen,” he concluded in his message, marking the official launch of his diplomatic mission.
