Kcee Reveals Pressure to Go Solo After Presh Suggestion

Award-winning Nigerian singer, Kcee, has disclosed the pressure he felt when his former music partner, Presh, initiated the split of their popular duo, KC Presh.

In a recent interview with Yanga FM Lagos, Kcee clarified that the breakup wasn’t fueled by any disagreements or external factors like his brother, E-Money, starting a record label. He explained that their diverging musical styles ultimately led to the decision.

“KC Presh’s breakup wasn’t due to any disagreement. We didn’t have any issue. It wasn’t because my brother [E-Money] wanted to open a record label,” Kcee stated. “What happened was that we were doing different kinds of sounds. Presh was more of an R&B artist, while I do Afropop.”

The ‘Limpopo’ hitmaker revealed that Presh first suggested pursuing solo projects. While he agreed, Kcee admitted to feeling insecure as he believed Presh possessed a superior vocal talent.

“We did a couple of records together, and at some point, Presh suggested we do solo projects. The idea came from him. I accepted it, but I was under pressure because he has a better voice than me. People were praising him, saying he was the one holding the group together, so he was very confident,” Kcee shared.

However, Kcee also asserted his own contributions, noting that he handled much of the behind-the-scenes work. “However, I was also aware of my capacity. The majority of our fans supported him because they felt he was the better singer. But they don’t know the work that goes on behind the scenes. I was the one doing most of the work behind the scenes,” he explained.

Kcee believes the split ultimately propelled his individual success, as it motivated him to work harder and consistently release hit songs. He also disclosed that he later offered Presh a spot on his 5ive Music label, but the offer was declined due to lingering resentment over the breakup.

KC Presh rose to fame after winning the Star Quest talent show in 2002, releasing three albums before their separation in the 2010s.
