JoyNews is convening a National Dialogue on Thursday, December 18, 2025, at 6:00 pm to address growing concerns about the weakening of standards enforcement in Ghana and its impact on public safety, consumer rights, and national progress.
The dialogue, to be broadcast live on JoyNews television and Joy 997 FM, will center around the theme “Declining Adherence to Standards: Counting the Cost, Enforcing Standards to Drive National Development.” It aims to shift the focus from merely identifying problems to generating actionable solutions.
From substandard goods flooding the market to unsafe food products and poorly monitored industrial activities, the consequences of lax enforcement are increasingly apparent across Ghana’s economic landscape.
The discussion will bring together key stakeholders – regulators, industry leaders, and policymakers – to collaboratively chart a path forward. Prof. Nana Ama Browne Klutse, Chief Executive Officer of the Environmental Protection Authority (EPA), will be a leading voice.
Also participating is Barima Y.A. Osei-Bonsu, Executive Director of Rosehill Aluminium Company Limited, and Sampson Ahi, Deputy Minister for Trade, Agribusiness, and Industry.
Further enriching the dialogue will be Kofi Kapito, CEO of the Consumer Protection Agency, Mr. Roderick K. Daddey-Adjei, Deputy CEO of the Food and Drugs Authority (FDA) in charge of Food Registration and Safety, and Dr. Awal Mohammed, Deputy Director-General of the Ghana Standards Authority.
“We need to move beyond lamenting the issues and actively work towards strengthening the systems that ensure quality and protect Ghanaians,” a source close to the organization stated, highlighting the urgent need for the dialogue.
JoyNews hopes this forum will spark critical conversations and lead to tangible improvements in standards enforcement, driving sustainable national development.
