Ghana Minister Says Zoomlion Essential to Development

The Jospong Group of Companies has been lauded as an indispensable partner in Ghana’s development, with Local Government Minister Ahmed Ibrahim emphasizing the crucial link between modern governance, environmental health, and the Group’s extensive work.

“As a nation, we cannot discuss environmental sanitation, waste management, public health, the green economy, or modern local governance without acknowledging the remarkable contribution of the Jospong Group,” Mr. Ibrahim stated emphatically.

He revealed the depth of the collaboration, noting that Jospong, through Zoomlion Ghana Limited and its sister companies, actively supports all 261 Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs).

This partnership encompasses a wide range of essential services, including solid waste collection and recycling, advanced landfill management, comprehensive fumigation exercises, and the implementation of innovative green technologies.

Mr. Ibrahim highlighted the Group’s consistent performance across different administrations as a testament to its impact. “It is not accidental that the Group has survived three different political administrations. When greatness is before you and when the work is impactful, you cannot ignore it,” he explained.

He further credited Zoomlion’s initiatives with delivering tangible benefits to Ghanaians, such as “cleaner water bodies, safer environments, healthier communities, and thousands of jobs for young people across Ghana.”

In a bold statement, the Minister positioned Zoomlion’s growth within a historical context of Ghanaian achievement, declaring it “Africa’s third great movement.”

“The first wave was Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s liberation efforts across the continent. The second was when the Ghanaian Black Stars conquered African football, and the third wave is Zoomlion’s expansion across Africa, which has become another historic symbol of Ghana’s global influence,” he added.

He underscored the company’s continental reach, questioning, “Tell me, which other Ghanaian company commands a presence in 25 African countries? None.” He described this as “historical, inspirational, and a testament to the fact that Ghanaian excellence, when guided by discipline, vision, and ethical principles, can stand tall anywhere in the world.”

The government, he affirmed, remains committed to strengthening this vital partnership, solidifying the Jospong Group’s role in Ghana’s ongoing and future progress.

Dr. Siaw Agyepong, Executive Chairman of the Jospong Group, attributed the Group’s success – from its humble beginnings as a printing press – to divine providence and consistent national support. “Thus far has the Lord helped us,” he said.

He detailed the scale of Zoomlion, its flagship environmental arm, which now operates 36 functional plants dedicated to solid, liquid, and medical waste treatment, establishing Ghana as “a centre of industrial excellence on the African continent.”

The Group’s journey, starting with Jospong Printing Press in Jamestown in 1995, now extends to over 25 African countries, including Kenya, Nigeria, Uganda, Ethiopia, Tanzania, The Gambia, and Gabon.

Dr. Siaw Agyepong expressed gratitude to past and present leaders, including the late Presidents Jerry John Rawlings and John Evans Atta Mills, former Presidents John Agyekum Kufuor and Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo, and First Lady Lordina Mahama, for their unwavering support.

He described the company’s success as a “manifestation of divine covenant, revelation, and mystery,” a national testament to the power of vision and enablement.

The event was attended by high-profile figures including Chief of Staff, Julius Deborah, ministers of state like Sam George, Members of Parliament, traditional leaders, members of the diplomatic corps, clergy, Muslim clerics, civil society representatives, business owners, and Jospong Group employees.
