Her return follows a period of ill health that sparked national concern, with many Ghanaians sending well wishes and prayers for her swift recovery. Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang, Ghana’s Vice President, has reaffirmed her commitment to the nation’s development, buoyed by the overwhelming support she received during her recovery.
“So I’m very happy to be back,” the Vice President stated upon her return. “There’s so much that has happened, and so much more we need to do. But I believe that through our collective will, we will do much more for our country.” Her words resonated with supporters and political observers alike, signaling a renewed focus on national progress.
The Vice President’s recent health challenges began with a sudden illness, requiring medical attention and a period of recuperation. She acknowledged the outpouring of support from medical professionals, government leaders, her family, and the general public, expressing deep gratitude for their care and concern.
“I want to say thanks to God. His mercies have been infinite, as always, and I’m very grateful. I also thank the medical staff for seeing the right things and making the right proposals.”
Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang also extended heartfelt thanks to President John Dramani Mahama for his prompt and decisive action during her health crisis. His immediate response ensured she received the necessary medical attention and support.
“To my boss, that day — I don’t even know where you appeared from — but you came and quickly set in motion what we needed to do,” she recalled, highlighting President Mahama’s unwavering support.
The Vice President also expressed immense gratitude to Mr. Ibrahim Mahama for his personal support and dedication to her well-being. His presence and reassurance were invaluable during her time of need.
According to her, Mr. Mahama “stopped at nothing to ensure I had what I needed. He came to the hospital and just sat by me — and that was healing in itself. So, my little Boss, I’m very, very grateful.”
The Vice President’s health situation began on March 28, 2025, when she experienced a sudden illness. She promptly sought medical attention at the University of Ghana Medical Centre (UGMC) for evaluation and initial treatment. Subsequently, starting April 7, 2025, she took a three-week medical leave, during which she traveled abroad to receive further medical care and recuperation.
Upon her return, Jane Naana Opoku-Agyemang received a warm reception led by President Mahama and his wife, Lordina. Senior government officials, including Chief of Staff Julius Debrah and Finance Minister Dr. Cassiel Ato Forson, were also present to welcome her back. The gathering underscored the importance of her role and the collective relief at her recovery.
