The Ministry of the Interior has launched an investigation after the Office of the Special Prosecutor alleged that Special Prosecutor Kissi Agyebeng survived two assassination attempts and its Director of Research Samuel Appiah Darko was handcuffed and beaten by police.
The allegations were aired on Newsfile on Saturday, 6 December 2025, when Mr Darko told the programme he had been handcuffed by seventeen police officers and assaulted.
The Ministry described the claims as highly concerning, warning that threats against officials of accountability institutions could jeopardise the government’s anti‑corruption drive.
The interior minister issued two directives: a comprehensive probe into the alleged assassination attempts and a separate inquiry into the handcuffing incident, stressing that crime does not expire.
Preliminary engagement with Special Prosecutor Agyebeng indicates the alleged attempts occurred before this year, though no formal threat reports have been logged with police or security agencies.
“We will pursue every lead and keep the public informed as investigations progress,” a ministry spokesperson said.
The investigations are expected to conclude within weeks, and the ministry reaffirmed its commitment to protecting lives and property so Ghanaians can conduct lawful activities without fear.
