The Ministry of the Interior has launched its Online Digital Services Portal, a move hailed by Minister Muntaka Mohammed-Mubarak as a significant step forward in Ghana’s digital transformation and the modernization of public services.
The portal, unveiled on Tuesday, aims to provide citizens, residents, and businesses with streamlined access to a range of services previously requiring in-person visits and manual processing. According to the Ministry, the platform will encompass citizenship, migration, security regulation, and other specialized administrative tasks.
Key services now accessible online include applications for Immigrant Quota Permits, Renunciation of Citizenship, Dual Nationality, licensing for Private Security Organisations, and permissions related to the import and export of explosives, arms and ammunition, as well as the exportation of deceased individuals.
Speaking at the launch, Mr. Mohammed-Mubarak emphasized the potential for increased efficiency, transparency, and accountability. “This digital transition will greatly enhance service delivery,” he stated, adding that it will strengthen data security and reduce opportunities for corruption.
He further highlighted the portal’s capacity to minimize delays and improve revenue assurance through better systems management. The elimination of unnecessary bureaucracy, the Minister noted, will lead to faster, and more reliable public services, more responsive to the needs of the citizenry.
The launch of the portal forms part of the government’s broader vision to establish a modern, secure, and inclusive digital economy. Officials revealed the long-term objective is to equip all public institutions to operate effectively in a digital environment, expanding access to services for underserved populations.
The Ministry has assured citizens that the Online Digital Services Portal will be continuously updated and expanded with new services to ensure its long-term sustainability and user-friendliness.
