Imperial General Assurance Donates Menstrual Hygiene Products to Ashanti School for Deaf Girls

Imperial General Assurance has donated a three-month supply of menstrual hygiene products to the Ashanti School for the Deaf in Gyamase, Sekyere South District of the Ashanti Region.

The gesture aims to promote the dignity, confidence, and uninterrupted education of girls living with disabilities.

A total of 236 girls will benefit from the donation, made in partnership with the Total Family Health Organisation (TFHO). The support addresses a key barrier to school attendance and overall well-being.

Presenting the items, Managing Director of Imperial General Assurance, Harry Boakye Ofori-Attah, stated that the initiative demonstrates the company’s commitment to the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals (SDGs), specifically Good Health and Well-being (SDG 3), Quality Education (SDG 4), Gender Equality (SDG 5), Reduced Inequalities (SDG 10), and Partnerships (SDG 17).

“For us at Imperial, this means more than just providing pads; it’s about ensuring comfort, inclusion, and the continuity of these girls’ education and daily lives,” Mr. Ofori-Attah emphasised. “Every girl deserves dignity, confidence, and the freedom to learn without barriers.”

Menstrual hygiene management is a significant challenge for many young girls in Ghana, often resulting in missed school days and lowered self-esteem. This challenge is particularly acute for girls attending special needs schools, who face additional societal and economic difficulties.

The partnership with TFHO, a social marketing organisation dedicated to promoting healthy behaviours and providing affordable health products, ensured the donation was specifically tailored to the needs of the beneficiaries.

School authorities have welcomed the donation as a timely intervention that will contribute to a more inclusive and supportive learning environment.

“Together, we’re building a world where every girl can rise with confidence, every single day of the month,” Mr. Ofori-Attah added, highlighting the broader vision of the corporate social responsibility project.

Joseph Addo-Yobo, Executive Director of TFHO, explained that his organisation recognises the need for collaborative efforts to address period poverty, especially among marginalised communities. “The deaf and special needs students are often overlooked in mainstream health initiatives,” he said. “Imperial General Assurance shared our vision that every young person deserves dignity during menstruation, regardless of their abilities or circumstances.”

“Their commitment to corporate social responsibility aligns perfectly with our mission at TFHO, and together, we can make a real difference. Partnerships like these allow us to extend our reach and ensure no girl misses school due to a lack of sanitary pads,” he stressed.

The donation to the Ashanti School for the Deaf exemplifies how strategic partnerships between the private sector and non-profits can have a tangible impact, reducing inequalities and empowering vulnerable individuals to pursue their education and reach their full potential.
