Franklin Cudjoe Backs Nyindam for Kpandai Rerun

President of IMANI Africa, Franklin Cudjoe, has voiced his support for New Patriotic Party (NPP) candidate Matthew Nyindam as the Kpandai parliamentary seat goes to a rerun on December 30.

Mr. Cudjoe, speaking on Channel One TV on Saturday, December 13, believes the rerun is a consequence of administrative shortcomings within the Electoral Commission (EC), rather than any wrongdoing on the part of the candidates who contested the 2024 elections.

He argued that the issues surrounding the Kpandai results primarily stem from weaknesses in the collation process, for which the EC should be held accountable. “The collation issues tell me clearly that the problem lies with the Electoral Commission. The fact that these things were allowed to happen means the EC should be chastised,” he stated.

Expressing concern for Mr. Nyindam, Mr. Cudjoe feels the rerun is unjust given his belief that the initial election was legitimately won. “I feel very uncomfortable with how this has played out. It is unfair to the candidate who won, and I genuinely hope he wins again,” he said.

He also questioned the National Democratic Congress’s (NDC) decision to challenge the results, suggesting it’s part of a larger strategy to increase their parliamentary representation. “I honestly don’t understand where the NDC wants to take all these majority seats to. It almost feels like a buy one, get one free approach,” he remarked.

The Tamale High Court ordered the rerun following a petition by the NDC’s candidate, Nsala Wakpal, who contested the validity of the 2024 election results. The court found that the final collation was conducted without the presence of the NDC candidate or a designated agent, leading to the seat being declared vacant.
