A pump-action shotgun and a significant quantity of ammunition have been seized by the IGP Special Operations Team in Bimbila, Northern Region, as part of a crackdown on illicit firearms and narcotics.
The operation, undertaken across key areas of Bimbila Township including the main road, inner-city routes, and the Bimbila-Salaga Road, also resulted in the retrieval of dried leaves suspected to be Indian hemp.
According to police reports, 216 AAA live cartridges and 55 pieces of 76mm BB live cartridges were recovered alongside the suspected unregistered firearm. A snap checkpoint at the Bimbila main Market and Yam Market proved crucial in the operation.
Authorities have arrested a supplier of cartridges and a provision seller suspected of dealing in illicit drugs as part of the ongoing investigations. Additionally, seven individuals were apprehended for allegedly dealing in Indian hemp.
“All suspects are currently in detention at the Bimbila District Charge Office, assisting with investigations,” a police statement indicated. The recovered items have been handed over to investigators for further examination.
The IGP Special Operations Team stated that the operation is part of broader efforts to enhance security within the Northern Region and restore public trust by disrupting the flow of illegal weapons and narcotics. This is aimed at creating a safer environment for communities.
