Meet Hon Thomas Kissiedu Okae aka Tommy Hugo

The Akuapem North District has been plunged into mourning following the passing of Hon. Thomas Kissiedu Okae, known affectionately as Tommy Hugo or DC Okae, on Monday, August 25th, 2025, at Mampong Medicas.

Mr. Okae, aged 81, was a distinguished former District Secretary of KAOGA (Somanya) and a retired Educationist. His death has been met with widespread grief from family, friends, and several organizations.

A joint statement released by Otoobour Djan Kwasi II, Aburihene and Adontenhene of Akuapem, Awo Adwoa Amene II, Aburihemea of Akuapem, and various groups including the Old Students of PRESEC, Legon (ODADEE), Great Amamfo Boys Aburi, P.T.C Akropong Akuapem, and the National Democratic Congress (NDC) expressed their deep sorrow.

Funeral arrangements have been announced as follows: a pre-burial service and filing past will be held on Saturday, December 13th, 2025, at the Presbyterian Church of Ghana (PCG) Emmanuel Congregation, Aburi, near the Presbyterian Women College of Education (P.W.C.E), from 6:00 am to 8:30 am.

The burial and memorial service will also take place on Saturday, December 13th, 2025, at the same venue, commencing at 9:00 am. Interment will follow at the Presby Cemetery, Aburi.

Funeral rites will be held on Saturday, December 13th, 2025, at Aburi, Odum Abrade (Jamaicaso). A Thanksgiving Service is scheduled for Sunday, December 14th, 2025, at PCG Emmanuel Congregation, Aburi, at 9:00 am. Final funeral rites will conclude on Sunday, December 14th, 2025, at Aburi, Odum Abrade (Jamaicaso).

The dress code for Saturday is Black and Red, while Sunday’s attire is Black and White. All friends and sympathizers are warmly invited to participate in the funeral activities.

Mr. Okae is survived by his widow, Mrs. Irene Kissiedu Okae, Deputy Chief Domestic Bursar at Akwamuman S.H.S, and his children: Daniel Amo, Elder C.O.P / Retired Educationist, Suhum; Nana Kwame Okae-Kissiedu, Principal Manager at the National Pension Regulatory Authority (NPRA), Accra; Nana Oteng Okae Kissiedu, Cocoa Health and Extension Division (CHED – COCOBOD), Accra; Nana Ohene Okae Kissiedu, Marketing Head at Antique Brands, Accra; Phyllis Nyamewah Mensah, Koforidua Technical University; and Seth Mensah Agyekum, T.T.U, Takoradi.
