The air crackles with anticipation across the Ashanti Region as the 6th edition of the Luv FM High School Debate gains momentum. Schools are currently engaged in fierce zonal contests, each vying for a coveted spot in the main debate. The 2025 Luv FM High School Debate, powered by LUV 99.5 FM, is more than just a competition; it’s a platform where future leaders sharpen their critical thinking and public speaking skills. The stakes are high, with attractive prizes and scholarship opportunities awaiting the most articulate and persuasive debaters. This article delves into the details of the ongoing zonal contests, the prizes that await, and what to expect at the official launch.

More than 100 senior high schools are currently participating in the preliminary rounds across the Ashanti Region, each hoping to secure a place in the main competition. The schools have been divided into four zones, each hosting its own series of intense debates. These zonal contests serve as a crucial filter, shortlisting the schools that demonstrate the highest levels of preparedness, clarity, and teamwork. Students are grappling with topical national and global issues, showcasing their ability to construct compelling arguments and deliver persuasive presentations. The judging criteria emphasize not only the content of the arguments but also the students’ presentation skills and their ability to work effectively as a team.

The ultimate goal for these schools is to be among the top 20 that will qualify for the main competition. From each of the four zones, the five highest-performing schools will advance, ensuring that the main debate features the very best talent from across the Ashanti Region.

Eric Nkoom, the Event Coordinator, emphasized the attractive prizes and scholarship opportunities that await the excelling schools and individual debaters participating in the 2025 Luv FM High School Debate.

According to Mr. Nkoom, Kwame Nkrumah University of Science and Technology (KNUST) will be offering scholarships to this year’s winners. Furthermore, opportunities for scholarships to study in the United States and Germany are also on the table, providing life-changing prospects for these talented students.

Over the years, the Luv FM High School Debate has built a strong reputation for nurturing critical thinking, public speaking, and civic awareness among students in the Ashanti Region. The competition serves as a valuable training ground, equipping students with the skills and knowledge they need to become informed and engaged citizens.

One debater from Kumasi Girls SHS expressed her determination to improve her skills and achieve great things in the upcoming rounds. Another participant, from Prempeh College, described the debate as both educating and entertaining, adding that he expects his team to reach the finals.

The official launch of the 2025 Luv FM High School Debate is scheduled for Friday, May 30, at the KNUST E-learning Centre (formerly CCB Auditorium). The event will mark a significant milestone in this year’s competition, setting the stage for the main debates to come.

At the launch, the final list of the 20 schools that have qualified from the zonal contests will be revealed, further intensifying the excitement. The full debate schedule will also be announced, giving students and supporters a clear picture of the path to the finals. Perhaps most excitingly, this year’s grand prize will be unveiled, adding another layer of motivation for the participating schools.

The 2025 Luv FM High School Debate is poised to be a truly remarkable event, fostering intellectual growth and providing invaluable opportunities for students across the Ashanti Region. As the zonal contests continue and anticipation builds for the official launch on May 30, the stage is set for a showcase of talent, critical thinking, and persuasive argumentation. Stay tuned to LUV 99.5 FM for the latest updates and to witness the future leaders of Ghana display their debating prowess. The Luv FM High School Debate is not just a competition; it’s an investment in the future of Ghana.
