Curfew Lifted in Sawla‑Tuna‑Kalba as Security Improves

Politics

The Ghanaian government lifted the curfew imposed on the Sawla‑Tuna‑Kalba township and surrounding communities in the Savannah Region on Thursday, citing a marked reduction in chieftaincy‑related tensions.

Minister of the Interior, Hon. Abdul‑Aziz Yakubu, announced the removal following advice from the Savannah Regional Security Council (REGSEC) and the issuance of an Executive Instrument that authorises the immediate termination of the restriction.

The curfew, which had been in place since Wednesday, August twenty‑seven, was initially imposed after renewed chieftaincy disputes raised security concerns in Bole and neighbouring areas.

Security assessments released by the police indicated a significant decline in hostilities, allowing residents to resume normal activities without heightened risk.

Despite the improved situation, the government urged chiefs, opinion leaders, youth groups and the general public to continue exercising restraint and to channel grievances through peaceful and lawful means.

“Government continues to urge chiefs, opinion leaders, youth and people of the area to exercise restraint in the face of the challenges confronting them and to use non‑violent means to channel their energies into ensuring peace in the area,” the statement read.

The ministry said it will maintain close monitoring of the region and stand ready to re‑impose measures if security conditions deteriorate.
