Accra, Ghana – A new alliance between the Screenwriters Guild of Ghana (SWGG), the Producers Guild of Ghana (PGG), and the National Film Authority (NFA) is set to reshape the landscape of the Ghana film industry. This collaboration marks a significant effort to elevate filmmaking standards, cultivate a sustainable and competitive environment, and amplify Ghanaian voices on the international stage. The unified front aims to foster a creative ecosystem where local talent can flourish and Ghana becomes an attractive hub for global productions, ultimately bolstering the quality and reach of the Ghana film industry.

The National Film Authority is spearheading this initiative with a clear vision: to establish statutory frameworks that align Ghanaian storytelling with global benchmarks. Key to this vision is protecting the intellectual property of Ghanaian filmmakers through strengthened copyright laws and fostering collaboration among creative guilds to ensure unified progress. The NFA also plans to support emerging filmmakers through targeted funding and innovative projects that encourage experimentation and growth within the Ghana film industry.

The Screenwriters Guild of Ghana and the Producers Guild of Ghana are integral to realizing this vision. Discussions are also underway with key stakeholders to streamline the process for foreign productions accessing Ghanaian crew, equipment, and logistical support. Furthermore, the upcoming National Film Dialogue on July 30th will address critical issues such as insurance for equipment and logistics, aiming to create a more secure and predictable environment for both local and international productions.
