Ghana’s Ambassador to the United States, Mr. Victor Emmanuel Smith, has assured full support for the Black Stars’ participation in the upcoming World Cup, aiming to make the tournament a memorable one for the nation.
The Ambassador stated that the Embassy will collaborate closely with the Ghana Football Association (GFA) to manage logistical needs arising from the tournament’s multi-city schedule and to promote Ghana’s interests throughout the competition.
Mr. Smith made these remarks during a courtesy call by GFA President, Mr. Kurt Edwin Simeon-Okraku, who was in the US to discuss Ghana’s group placement and preparations for the World Cup.
The GFA President revealed that Ghana has been drawn into Group L, Pot 4, alongside Panama, England, and Croatia. He highlighted the logistical challenges of playing matches across Boston, Philadelphia, and Toronto.
“The group arrangement will require playing across multiple venues—Boston, Philadelphia and Toronto which could present logistical challenges for the team and its supporting delegation,” Mr. Simeon-Okraku said.
He emphasized the importance of the Embassy’s cooperation in supporting the team’s operations and amplifying Ghana’s presence on the global stage, describing the World Cup as a significant platform for the country.
“We expect close cooperation from the Embassy before and during the tournament to support the team’s operations and help push Ghana’s interests on the global stage,” the GFA President stated.
Mr. Simeon-Okraku also announced plans to launch the new national team jerseys in Washington, D.C., and to utilize the World Cup as an opportunity to scout young talent through dedicated camps.
Following the meeting, both Ambassador Smith and Mr. Simeon-Okraku reaffirmed their commitment to working together to ensure the successful execution of these plans and to support the Black Stars in their World Cup campaign.
