In a significant stride towards bolstering education and healthcare infrastructure, GHACEM, Ghana’s leading cement manufacturer, has donated 10,000 bags of cement to schools and hospitals in the Northern sector. This contribution, channeled through the GHACEM Cement Foundation (GCF), underscores the company’s deep-seated commitment to corporate social responsibility. The donation aims to address critical infrastructural gaps in underserved communities, a mission the Foundation has diligently pursued since 2002. The impact of this donation resonates far beyond mere construction; it’s about building a stronger, more equitable Ghana. By providing essential resources, GHACEM is helping to lay the foundation for a brighter future for countless individuals and communities. This act will help create a better future for the country, thanks to GHACEM cement.

For many schools and hospitals in Northern Ghana, the struggle to maintain and improve facilities is a daily reality. Limited resources often hinder essential building projects, leaving institutions struggling to provide adequate learning and healthcare environments. The GHACEM cement donation serves as a lifeline, injecting a much-needed boost to ongoing construction and renovation efforts. With 10,000 bags of cement now available, these institutions can accelerate their projects, ensuring that students have access to better classrooms and patients receive care in improved facilities. The focus is on education and healthcare, both of which are foundational for community development. Improved school facilities create a more conducive learning environment for children, and better-equipped hospitals enhance the quality of healthcare services available to the population.

The GHACEM Cement Foundation (GCF), established in 2002, embodies GHACEM’s long-term vision of corporate social responsibility. The Foundation’s core mission is simple yet profound: to support deprived communities by providing cement for essential infrastructure projects. This enduring commitment reflects GHACEM’s belief in giving back to the society it serves. Over the years, the GCF has made a monumental contribution to Ghana’s development. Since its inception, the Foundation has donated over 725,060 bags of cement to various projects across the country. This equates to a substantial investment in the nation’s educational and healthcare infrastructure, touching countless lives and improving access to quality education and healthcare services. Nana Prah, Chairman of the Foundation, noted that the cost of these donations has reached GH₵58 million, underscoring the magnitude of GHACEM’s commitment.

At the donation ceremony, key stakeholders shared their perspectives on the impact and sustainability of the Foundation’s work. Dr. Frank Huber, Managing Director of GHACEM, emphasized the company’s broader vision of nation-building. “Being a nation builder means more than just producing cement,” Dr. Huber stated. “It means producing responsibly, giving back meaningfully to society, and treating workers fairly, among others.” Dr. Huber also highlighted GHACEM’s commitment to environmental sustainability, mentioning the upcoming launch of a new eco-friendly cement product designed to significantly lower COâ‚‚ emissions. This initiative reflects GHACEM’s dedication to responsible production practices and environmental stewardship.

Ehunabobrim Prah Agyensaim VI, Chairman of the Foundation, reflected on the historical context that led to its creation. “At the time companies came, paid their taxes, made their profits, and left, there was no conscience behind corporate social responsibility,” he explained. “But GHACEM broke that jinx.” Nana Prah urged continued patronage of GHACEM products to ensure the sustainability of the Foundation’s initiatives, highlighting the symbiotic relationship between business success and social impact. Prof. Audrey Gadzekpo, a Council Member of the Foundation, underscored the critical role of education and health in national development. “Education and health are the foundation of opportunity,” Prof. Gadzekpo asserted. “A country with an educated, healthy population is a country with a future.” She encouraged communities to actively seek support from the Foundation and to spread awareness about its vital work.

One of the key issues raised during the ceremony was the disparity in donation requests between the southern and northern regions of Ghana. Nana Prah voiced his concern over this imbalance, passionately appealing to district leaders and citizens to actively advocate for the needs of underserved communities in the north. Ensuring equitable distribution of resources is crucial for fostering balanced development across the nation. Mr. Frank Antwi Agyapong, Head of the GCF Secretariat, echoed this sentiment, urging more institutions to apply for support from the Foundation. He announced that the next application period would open in November 2025, emphasizing that “there is a dedicated allocation of cement available but only for those who apply.” This call to action aims to bridge the gap and ensure that resources reach the communities that need them most.

GHACEM’s donation of cement is more than just a charitable act; it’s a strategic investment in Ghana’s future. The GHACEM Cement Foundation exemplifies how businesses can play a pivotal role in addressing societal challenges and promoting sustainable development. By prioritizing education and healthcare, GHACEM is contributing to the creation of a more equitable and prosperous Ghana. Communities are encouraged to seize the opportunity to partner with GHACEM, leveraging the Foundation’s resources to build a better tomorrow. As stakeholders emphasize, these donations are not merely acts of charity, but strategic investments in Ghana’s future. By addressing critical needs in education and healthcare, GHACEM helps build a stronger, more equitable society. Communities are encouraged to apply for support and partner with GHACEM in building a better Ghana, one bag of cement at a time. We can all help build a better Ghana with GHACEM cement.
