GEA Clarifies: No Permanent Staff Terminated Due to Expired Contracts

The Ghana Enterprises Agency (GEA) has refuted reports circulating in the media that its Chief Executive Officer, Margaret Ansei, has dismissed staff. The Agency described the claims as inaccurate and urged the public to disregard them.

In a rejoinder issued on Monday, December 8, GEA clarified that the reports stemmed from a misinterpretation of an internal memorandum dated December 3, 2025. The Agency emphasized that no permanent staff member has been sacked.

According to GEA, the individuals referenced in the memo were District Coordinators engaged on a time-bound project basis, not mainstream employees. Their contracts, which were renewed annually, officially expired on August 31, 2025.

Management explained that a two-month extension was granted in good faith to ensure continuity of work, ending on October 31, 2025. “These coordinators were never recruited into GEA’s permanent workforce,” the statement affirmed.

GEA stressed that contract renewals are not automatic and are contingent upon several factors, including performance, attendance, funding availability, and project needs. The memo, the Agency clarified, did not terminate any existing contracts.

Instead, the directive simply instructed individuals whose contracts had expired and were awaiting renewal to cease reporting for duty until the renewal processes were completed. This applied equally to National Service Personnel whose mandatory service had ended.

“This administrative instruction is standard practice in the public sector to prevent irregularities, safeguard the integrity of the Agency’s operations, and ensure proper accountability,” GEA stated. The Agency firmly reiterated that its permanent staff were not affected by the directive.

GEA urged the media to exercise due diligence in reporting on its activities, stating that the current narrative is misleading. The Agency reaffirmed its commitment to due process, transparency, and fair treatment of all staff, including those on project-based contracts and National Service.

“We encourage journalists and the public to seek clarification when in doubt to avoid misinterpretation of internal communications,” the statement concluded.
