GCTU Scholars Ranked Among Top 2% of Global Scientists

Ghana Communication Technology University (GCTU) has cemented its position as a leading research institution with the recognition of four of its scholars in the prestigious World’s Top 2% Scientists Network.

The global ranking, which identifies researchers with significant impact in their fields, includes Vice-Chancellor Prof. Emmanuel Ohene Afoakwa (Rank: 41,933), Senior Lecturer Dr. Mohammed Musah (Rank: 66,301), Retired Professor Prof. George Kofi Amoako (Rank: 85,888), and immediate past Pro Vice-Chancellor Prof. Robert Ebo Hinson (Rank: 101,836).

This achievement underscores GCTU’s growing strength in research, innovation, and technology education. The ranking is based on a comprehensive assessment of research performance, considering citation impact and the significance of contributions to the scientific community.

According to the university, the recognition highlights the dedication of its faculty to publishing high-quality research papers in reputable journals.

“This is a testament to the hard work and commitment of our scholars,” a GCTU spokesperson stated. “It demonstrates the quality of research being conducted at GCTU and its increasing international visibility.”

The inclusion of Prof. Hinson, a former Pro Vice-Chancellor, also reflects the strong research foundation established by previous leadership at the university.

This success is closely linked to the Vice-Chancellor’s “Vision 20 by 30” agenda, a strategic initiative aimed at mentoring and supporting at least 20 senior lecturers to achieve professorship by 2030. The programme provides training, support, and encouragement to foster academic growth.

“We are committed to developing our people and creating a thriving research culture,” Prof. Afoakwa explained. “The Vision 20 by 30 agenda is a key component of this effort, and we are already seeing positive results.”

Furthermore, the recognition of these scholars supports GCTU’s broader “Silicon Valley Agenda,” which seeks to establish the university as a leading hub for innovation, digital creativity, and technological advancement in Africa.

GCTU has extended its congratulations to Prof. Afoakwa, Dr. Musah, Prof. Amoako, and Prof. Hinson for their outstanding accomplishments and the honour they have brought to the institution. The university remains dedicated to fostering excellence in teaching, research, and innovation.
