Ministry of Lands Mourns Fatal Shooting Victim at Adelekezu

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has expressed its deepest condolences to the family of a young man who lost his life in a shooting incident at a mining site in Adelekezu, Western Region, on Saturday, December 13, 2025.

The incident, which occurred near Dadwen in the Axim District, is currently under investigation by the Western Regional Police Command. Police responding to the scene discovered extensive damage to property belonging to the mining company, including two burnt 4×4 SUVs and two tipper trucks. A pickup vehicle and a Toyota Land Cruiser were also damaged during the disturbance.

In a statement released on Monday, December 15, the Ministry acknowledged the Police Service’s confirmation of the incident and the ongoing probe. “We extend our condolences to the family of the deceased and sympathise with the community affected by this unfortunate incident,” the statement read.

The Ministry affirmed its full respect for the independence of the police investigation and urged calm and cooperation from all parties. “The matter is currently under investigation by the Ghana Police Service. The Ministry respects the independence of the investigative process and urges all persons to remain calm and cooperate fully with the security agencies to allow due process to take its course,” it stated.

Reiterating its commitment to responsible mining practices, the Ministry emphasized the importance of community safety and peaceful coexistence between mining operations and host communities. “The Ministry reiterates its commitment to lawful mining operations, community safety, and peaceful coexistence between mining activities and host communities,” the statement continued.

Any further action or engagement by the Ministry will be determined solely by the findings of the police investigation, officials have indicated. The Ministry is awaiting the outcome of the investigation before commenting further on the matter.
