Education Ministry Denies 13th-Month Salary for Teachers

Politics

The Ministry of Education has vehemently denied claims circulating in the media, attributing comments to Education Minister Haruna Iddrisu regarding a proposed 13th-month salary for teachers.

According to the Ministry, a publication falsely reported that the Minister announced the potential implementation of such a measure during a policy forum in Accra on Monday, aimed at boosting teacher morale and welfare.

In a statement released on Wednesday, December 17, the Ministry described the report as a “deliberate falsehood, misinformation, and disinformation” intended to mislead the public. It firmly stated that the Minister has, at no time, made any such pronouncements in any public engagement or official interaction.

While reaffirming the government’s commitment to enhancing the welfare of teachers and all education sector employees, the Ministry emphasized that improvements will be pursued through “structured dialogue and sustainable policy measures.”

“No proposal for a 13th-month salary has been announced or advocated by the Minister,” the statement clarified.

The Ministry has demanded an immediate retraction and unqualified apology from Opera News for publishing the inaccurate report. It also urged the public to disregard the misleading information and avoid spreading unverified claims that could cause unnecessary anxiety.

The Ministry of Education reiterated its dedication to transparent communication and pledged to continue engaging the public through official and credible channels.
