Driver Errors Cause Road Crashes in Bono Region, DVLA Says

Bono DVLA regional manager George Okyere said there is no evidence linking Christmas‑time road crashes to wizardry, stressing that human error and driver negligence remain the main culprits.

Okyere explained that the recent spate of accidents during the festive season is largely attributable to careless driving and the rush to pick up passengers, especially among commercial operators. He warned against “mad rushing” and urged drivers to exercise patience.

Speaking to media in Abesim, near Sunyani, the official advised motorists to conduct regular checks on tyres, brakes and lighting systems, and to keep up vehicle maintenance. “A well‑maintained vehicle is the first line of defence against accidents,” he stated.

The manager highlighted that road safety is a collective responsibility. He called on drivers to curb speeding, avoid illegal overtaking and strictly observe road signs throughout the Christmas period.

In addition, Okyere appealed to all commuters to wear seat belts at all times and asked pedestrians to be extra cautious when sharing the roads during the holidays. “Every road user has a role to play in ensuring a crash‑free festive season,” he emphasized.

The DVLA will continue to monitor traffic patterns and work with law‑enforcement agencies to enforce safety regulations, aiming to reduce the number of fatalities during the year‑end celebrations.
