Daddy Lumba's Funeral to Proceed on Saturday After Court Ruling

Local News

The funeral of highlife legend Daddy Lumba is set to proceed as planned tomorrow, after the Accra High Court lifted an injunction that had threatened to halt the ceremony.

The court, in a ruling today, noted concerns raised about the sidelining of the immediate family in funeral arrangements. However, it emphasized the need for a full consideration of the case’s merits.

Lawyers from both sides were summoned back to court, where the judge instructed the applicants to deposit GH₵2 million into the court by 2:00 pm today to cover costs associated with the funeral preparations.

The applicants failed to meet this deadline, leading to the dismissal of their plea and the removal of the legal obstacle preventing the funeral from taking place.

“This is a huge relief to the family,” said Thomas Kwadwo Osei, counsel for the family head. “We can now proceed with the final preparations.”

An earlier injunction had caused anxiety among family members and fans who had already travelled to Kumasi for the funeral. With the dismissal of the applicants’ request, arrangements are now back on track.
