CDKN Ghana Wins Top Climate Resilience Award

The Climate and Knowledge Development Network (CDKN) Ghana has been honoured for its significant contributions to climate action and sustainable development in Ghana and across Africa.

CDKN Ghana was presented with the Championing Climate Resilience Award at the Environmental Sustainability Goals Awards, with its Country Engagement Lead, Dr. Prince Ansah, also receiving the Excellence in Leadership Award.

This recognition follows closely on the heels of Dr. Ansah being named among the 100 Most Influential People in 2025.

Speaking to JoyNews, Dr. Ansah emphasized the critical need for enhanced climate literacy within Ghana. “These awards are a testament to the work we are doing. It’s not just about us, it’s about all the players helping communities, businesses and institutions adapt and contribute to climate resilience across the country,” he said.

Data from the Ghana Meteorological Agency reveals that the country’s average annual temperature has increased by approximately 1°C since the 1960s, with the northern regions experiencing a more rapid warming trend.

The Agency also notes a rise in the frequency of extremely hot days and nights, coupled with erratic rainfall patterns that are negatively impacting agriculture, water resources, and public health. Projections suggest a potential temperature increase of 1.8°C by 2100, alongside a possible sea level rise of 0.5 meters along the coastline.

Dr. Ansah highlighted the importance of collaborative efforts in addressing climate change. “Low literacy and limited resources can be addressed through institutional collaboration. Businesses, educational institutions, government agencies and NGOs, all must work together to ensure the climate message reaches the people and that we innovate solutions to the climate crisis in Ghana and beyond,” he stated.

The Environmental Sustainability Goals Awards, organized by Global Ovations Ltd., aim to celebrate individuals and organizations championing environmental stewardship, social equity, and good governance (ESG) throughout Africa. The awards seek to spotlight those driving change towards a more sustainable and resilient continent.

Experts warn that Ghana must prioritize boosting climate literacy alongside robust policy enforcement to mitigate growing environmental and economic risks stemming from rising temperatures, unpredictable rainfall, and coastal erosion.
