Botswana’s Olympic gold medalist, Letsile Tebogo, has officially taken ownership of a newly built three-bedroom house, fulfilling a promise made by the government following his stellar performance at the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.

The Botswana Athletics Association (BAA) confirmed that Tebogo was shown around his new home on Tuesday morning. The property, valued at 170,000, was fully funded by the Government of Botswana as a reward for his historic 200m gold win.

“The house was developed by Time Projects from the ground up, following Letsile’s selection of the preferred location and architectural plan,” a BAA spokesperson stated. Construction commenced after a groundbreaking ceremony in October 2024, marking what the Federation described as “the start of an enduring legacy project for the young champion.”

Tebogo’s success in Paris wasn’t limited to his individual sprint. As a key member of Botswana’s men’s 4x400m relay team, which secured a silver medal, he also benefited from the team incentive package.

“Each member of the silver-winning relay team, including Tebogo, has received a two-bedroom apartment and has already moved in,” the Association added.

The initiative was spearheaded by the Ministry of Sports and Arts, in collaboration with the Botswana National Sports Commission (BNSC) and the Botswana National Olympic Committee (BNOC). Officials say the gesture “underscores the government’s continued commitment to celebrating and rewarding sporting excellence” and aims to inspire future generations of athletes to represent Botswana at the Los Angeles 2028 Olympic Games and beyond.

The handover ceremony was officiated by the Minister of Sports and Arts, Hon. Jacob Kelebeng, and attended by prominent sporting figures such as BNSC Chairperson Mr. Marumo Morule, BNOC President Mr. Tshepo Sitale, Acting BAA President Mr. Oabona Theetso, and members of Tebogo’s family. The BAA noted that their presence “highlighted the collective pride and unity shared across Botswana’s sporting fraternity as the nation continues to honour one of its brightest stars.”
