Former Vice President Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia received an exceptionally warm welcome in his hometown of Walewale on Wednesday afternoon, marking a strong show of support as he continues his campaign tour ahead of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) presidential primaries.
NPP faithful in the Walewale Constituency, demonstrating remarkable unity, surprisingly declined a formal campaign address from Dr. Bawumia. Supporters insisted they had already resolved to deliver him a resounding victory in the January primaries.
Dr. Bawumia’s tour, which began in the Upper West and Upper East Regions, commenced the North East Region leg with his visit to Walewale. The atmosphere was charged with excitement as party members reaffirmed their unwavering commitment to his presidential bid.
Even prior to his arrival, the constituency was alive with music and dance. Supporters were seen celebrating to traditional tunes and songs composed specifically in Dr. Bawumia’s honour.
The arrival of the former Vice President was met with near pandemonium, as enthusiastic supporters surged forward to welcome him as they have done at other stops on his campaign.
However, in a striking departure from prior events, the crowd actively dissuaded Dr. Bawumia from delivering an extended campaign speech. They unequivocally declared their unwavering support and commitment to vote overwhelmingly in his favour.
Instead of listening to a lengthy address, the ecstatic gathering enveloped Dr. Bawumia, engaging in spontaneous dancing and chants of his name – a powerful visual demonstration of endorsement.
Amidst the energetic display, Dr. Bawumia briefly addressed the supporters, expressing his appreciation for their enthusiastic backing and assurance of a decisive win. “I am incredibly grateful for this overwhelming show of support,” he stated. “Your pledge to secure a victory for me in the upcoming primaries is deeply humbling.”
