Mahama Government's Economic Policies Under Fire

Spokesperson for the Bawumia Campaign, Dennis Miracles Aboagye, has criticised the current government, accusing it of implementing economic policies that fail to translate into tangible benefits for ordinary Ghanaians.

Speaking on JoyNews’ AM Show on Friday, December 12, Mr. Aboagye insisted that despite reported declines in the inflation rate, prices of goods and services remain stubbornly high in the markets.

“Ghanaians are witnessing a government that talks of stabilising the economy, yet every day, the prices of essential goods continue to rise. Inflation may have dropped on paper, but the reality in the markets tells a different story,” he stated.

He highlighted what he perceives as a disconnect between official economic indicators and the lived experiences of citizens.

“Is it not strange that while the dollar has reduced from 14 to 10, prices at Abossey Okai and other markets have gone up across the board? Clearly, the system is contradictory and not delivering for the people,” he argued.

Mr. Aboagye further contended that the government’s policies lack consistency and coordination, creating a challenging environment for economic progress.

“We are seeing a situation where monetary and fiscal policies contradict each other, leaving ordinary Ghanaians to bear the brunt of decisions made in offices far removed from the realities of daily life,” he explained.

The Bawumia Campaign spokesperson called for economic measures that directly improve the lives of Ghanaians, stressing that the success of any policy should be gauged by its impact on households rather than just official statistics.

“A government’s duty is to make life better for its people, not to present an economic story that exists only in reports,” he concluded.
