Ayariga Tells Minority to Stay Focused Amid Kpandai Unrest

Politics

The Majority Leader in Parliament, Mahama Ayariga, has expressed his lack of surprise at the Minority’s protest today, asserting the ruling party will not be swayed by what he termed as “taunts and disruption.”

According to Ayariga, the Minority’s actions are a deliberate attempt to obstruct parliamentary proceedings over the ongoing dispute regarding the Kpandai Constituency seat.

“No matter how much you chant or make noise, I will still state my position for the Speaker to give his ruling,” Ayariga reportedly told the Minority, emphasizing his commitment to addressing the matter.

He accused the Minority caucus of consistently creating disturbances, even to the point of hindering the Speaker from delivering rulings, all in an effort to prevent the House from conducting its business effectively.

“We will not be distracted,” Ayariga warned, adding that the Minority’s behaviour suggests a lack of genuine democratic principles. “I will let Ghanaians know that you are only pretending to be democrats… How can the Speaker rule if he has not heard all sides?”

Ayariga further stated that the Minority could have pursued more respectful avenues to voice their concerns, rather than resorting to obstructionist tactics. He insisted on transparency, saying, “We will not allow the matter to be treated in secrecy.”

In response, Minority Chief Whip, Frank Annoh Dompreh, remained resolute. He maintained that government business would be stalled until the Kpandai seat controversy is resolved.

Despite Annoh Dompreh’s objections, which were almost drowned out by the ensuing noise, the Speaker proceeded with parliamentary business. The situation reportedly escalated with Minority members crossing over to the Majority side.

The Kpandai seat controversy continues to be a major point of contention, with both sides digging in their heels and showing no signs of backing down.
