Asonkore SSNIT in the Obuasi East Municipality is reeling from a shocking home invasion that led to the murder of 42-year-old Bismark Yaw Sarfo Danso early Saturday, December 13.
Mr. Danso was fatally attacked by unidentified assailants inside his residence, prompting a full-scale investigation by the Obuasi Divisional Police Command.
Investigators have already detained a close relative – the deceased’s junior brother – for questioning, as they seek to understand the circumstances surrounding the tragic incident. This move suggests a broadening of the investigation beyond external suspects.
The harrowing ordeal unfolded between 1:30 am and 2:00 am when a gang of three armed men forcibly entered Mr. Danso’s home. According to his wife, Comfort Mensah, who spoke to Adom News Correspondent Isaac K. Normanyo, the intruders ransacked the house before the attack.
“They came in and started searching everywhere. It happened so fast,” she reportedly said, visibly distraught.
The gang is believed to have escaped with cash, a laptop, and other valuables, initially suggesting a robbery gone wrong. However, the subsequent murder has elevated the case to a high-priority homicide investigation.
Confirming the detention of her brother-in-law, Comfort Mensah praised the swift response of the police. “The police came quickly and are doing everything possible,” she stated.
The body of Bismark Yaw Sarfo Danso has been transported to a mortuary in the Ashanti Region, where a post-mortem examination will be conducted to determine the exact cause of death.
Obuasi East, an area historically linked to the AngloGold Ashanti gold mine, has faced challenges with sporadic crime, often attributed to economic hardships. The Asonkore SSNIT residential area is usually considered a safe zone.
The Obuasi Divisional Police Command is appealing to the public for any information that could assist in their investigation. Anyone with details is urged to come forward and help bring the perpetrators to justice.
