Asaman Tamfoe, Ghana – In a forceful rebuke of recent allegations, Chief Osabarima Kwame Koh has staunchly defended District Chief Executive (DCE) Ernest Owusu Ntim against claims of involvement in illegal mining, commonly known as galamsey. The accusations, leveled by a local miner, have been dismissed as a smear campaign orchestrated by those threatened by the DCE’s efforts to combat illegal mining in the Atiwa East District.
The chief and residents of Asaman Tamfoe are united in their support of DCE Ntim, viewing the galamsey claims against DCE Ntim as baseless and motivated by malice. This article explores the community’s unwavering defense, the Chief’s impassioned statements, and the counter-accusations leveled against the alleged accuser.
Chief’s Strong Refutation of Galamsey Allegations
Osabarima Kwame Koh, in a passionate address to community members, unequivocally refuted the allegations against DCE Ntim. He asserted that the DCE is not only innocent but is, in fact, at the forefront of the fight against illegal mining in the region. “The DCE is the one leading the fight against galamsey in this area,” the Chief declared. “These accusations are coming from illegal miners who feel threatened by his appointment.”
The Chief further emphasized the lack of any evidence supporting the claims, dismissing them as pure fabrication. “You can ask any farmer around—he is not involved in illegal mining. This is blackmail,” he stated, underscoring the community’s confidence in the DCE’s integrity.
Call for State Security Intervention
Beyond defending DCE Ntim, Osabarima Kwame Koh called upon state security agencies to intervene and take action against the individual making the accusations. The Chief identified the accuser as a known illegal miner responsible for significant destruction of farmlands within the district. He stated that the accuser had allegedly seized approximately 13 hectares of farmland, claiming ownership under dubious pretenses. “He has taken over about 13 hectares of farmland already, claiming the lands belong to the Chief of Ankaase. But we know the truth. He must be made to face the law,” the Chief insisted.
Community Support and Confirmation of Miner’s Activities
The Chief’s sentiments were echoed by numerous residents, particularly local farmers, who attested to the destructive activities of the miner in question. Farmers described widespread environmental damage caused by the miner’s operations, including the pollution of water sources and the degradation of fertile land. They spoke of facing aggression and intimidation when attempting to protect their property. One farmer recounted a tense confrontation with the miner and his associates, highlighting the palpable fear within the farming communities.
Nifahene’s Confirmation and Police Inaction
Nana Adae Frimpong Manso, the Nifahene, corroborated the farmers’ accounts, confirming the miner’s activities and the extensive damage inflicted on his own farm. He expressed frustration over the lack of effective law enforcement, stating that although the matter had been reported to the police, the alleged perpetrators were released shortly after their arrest. “We reported the matter to the police. His accomplices were arrested briefly but released the same day. Up till now, the kingpin himself is walking free,” Nana Adae Frimpong Manso lamented.
Legal Action and Alleged Blackmail Attempt
Osabarima Kwame Koh indicated his intention to pursue legal action against the miner for allegedly encroaching upon his jurisdiction and causing extensive damage to farmlands. He emphasized the need to protect the community’s resources and ensure accountability for environmental destruction.
Allegations of Blackmail Against the DCE
The Chief expressed his belief that the accusations against DCE Ntim are a calculated attempt to blackmail and silence him, preventing him from effectively combating illegal mining in the Atiwa East District. The Chief stated, “What he’s doing is to blackmail the DCE so he won’t be able to act against him. But we won’t allow that,” the chief declared. “We stand with the DCE and will support him to deal with the situation decisively.”
The residents of Asaman Tamfoe are demanding swift and decisive action from law enforcement agencies to protect their farmlands, uphold the rule of law, and bring the alleged perpetrators to justice. They are adamant that the galamsey claims against DCE Ntim are refuted by the community, and they stand firmly behind him in his efforts to combat illegal mining, despite the alleged blackmail attempts.
