Vice Chairman Nana Akomea says Dr Mahamudu Bawumia will deliver a stronger showing in the NPP presidential primaries on Jan 31, 2026 than he did in 2023.
In an interview with Citi FM on Monday, Dec 8, Akomea argued that Bawumia’s appeal within the party has expanded considerably, even without the advantage of incumbency. He noted that the former Vice President’s popularity has risen organically, positioning him favourably ahead of the upcoming polls.
\”Bawumia’s popularity has actually risen without incumbency, and that is why I keep saying he will do better than he did in 2023. It’s just a month away, you will see,\” Akomea stated confidently.
The New Patriotic Party will elect its presidential candidate on Jan 31, 2026. Dr Bawumia is one of five aspirants seeking the party’s ticket for the next general election.
The other contenders are former Assin Central MP Kennedy Agyapong, former Agriculture Minister Dr Bryan Acheampong, former Education Minister Dr Yaw Osei Adutwum, and former NPP General Secretary Kwabena Agyepong.
Political analysts observe that a stronger primary performance could solidify Bawumia’s standing within the NPP and influence the party’s strategy for the 2024 general election. The primaries remain a focal point for party members and the broader electorate as the political calendar moves toward the January vote.
